News and Info

In reverse chronological order:

  • Debugging can be difficult and can take up the majority of your time writing your program. Following this Debugging_Guide will help you solve your own problems and finish labs quicker.
  • If you have a problem with your code not doing what you think you told it to do, you may be able to discover it using the debugger. You can find a few basics in the following link. Debugging in Visual Studio
  • The quiz which you would normally do on Monday Sept. 5 (on the labor day holiday) should instead be completed any time Sept. 6th. It would be extra nice if you could do it before class.
  • If you are already a great programmer and want to test out of this class, use the following link to start that process: https://cs.byu.edu/waive_cs_142. Note that the required labs are not from this particular section of CS 142. Follow the link from the waive_cs_142 page, given directly above.
  • You are welcome to use any computer in the Computer Science Department Computer Labs. We have have been given special permission to have priority in the lab in 1119 TMCB, so use that space first. If those computers are all being used, you are welcome to go elsewhere. The TA's will generally be in and around this lab when they are available to help you. This movie will help you find the lab.
  • For those interested in being a tutor for other students in the class or who are looking to get help from a tutor, please visit the Tutoring page.
  • If you've had questions about how to formulate good test cases, please see the new Test cases page.

Passoff Process

If you wish to pass off a lab please go to 1119 TMCB and fill out the form next to the printer. After filling out the form then go to the TA for passoff.

  • Those who are ready to pass off will receive first priority. However, please don't abuse the passoff system and use the TAs to debug your code.
  • There is a queuing program so that the TA's can help you in order. You can access this at:

 http://taohelpqueue.appspot.com/requesthelp/YPK364KMSA5U5QF55UCL8LQ3JHCS5C

  • When using the queue, please indicate if you need to passoff so we can get to you first.
